Prompt: Today, you continued working on your "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" PowerPoint project. Think about the creation process. Which part of creating your presentation has required the most thought or creativity? What choices have you made with your information, images, or slide design to help communicate your understanding of the story? Explain.

The part that has required the most creativity was trying to connect the character to something I have seen in real life. This was the most challenging part because I had to think harder about it than the rest of the presentation. It wasn't necessarily hard, just difficult trying to decide what I was going to choose to say. The most creatively challenging part was trying to connect the character to the real world. I realized how ot feels to try to think more creatively.

A time when helping someone helped me feel better was when I donated money to a charity. It made me feel better because it felt like I was making a difference in helping others whose lives that have been impacted. A time helping someone made me feel better was when I donated money to a charity. I realized I should help more people often who need it.

Prompt: In the beginning of “The Life You Save May Be Your Own,” Mrs. Crater and Mr. Shiflet meet for the first time and begin forming opinions about one another based on what they see, hear, and assume. Neither character truly knows the other yet, which raises an important question about first impressions.

A time that I had a first impression of someone that turned out to be wrong was when I met my freshman year science teacher. I thought that I was going to hate the class because I had none of my friends in there, and the teacher gave us a long assignment on the first day. I was wrong when, 3 days later, 2 of my friends got switched into the class and realized the work wasn't that hard. A time when my first impressions as wrong was when I went to my freshman year science class. I realized I shouldn't rely on first impressions.

A time a temptation was able to make me do something irresponsible was when I skipped school on a test day.  I was super tired, and I knew that I had a test that day, so I decided to stay at home and study instead of going to school. However, I was tempted to just keep putting off the studying, and I was only able to get a little bit of studying done. A time that A temptation caused me to make a mistake was when I skipped school on a test day and didn't study. I realized how often temptations can lead to mistakes.s

Today, we learned about the two types of characterization: direct and indirect characterization. We then applied what we learned by analyzing characters from James Baldwin’s “The Rockpile” using the STEAL method: Speech, Thoughts, Effect on Others, Actions, and Looks. Now, apply characterization to yourself. If someone were using the STEAL method to characterize you, how would they describe you? Select all parts of STEAL and explain what they reveal about your personality. Use specific examples. For example, what do your actions reveal about you? What does the way you speak reveal? How do you affect others? What might your thoughts or appearance communicate about who you are? Write one full paragraph.

For speech, I would say that I only speak when  I need to or when I'm talking to one of my friends. For thoughts, I would say that I am careful and think things through. For effects, I would say that I do things reliably. For actions, I would say that mostly I do what I say and am honest. For looks, I would say that I am an average-looking person with nothing that really stands out. I

Prompt: Imagine someone could learn about you only by looking through your trash can. What three items might they find in your trash today, and what would each item reveal about your personality, habits, interests, or life right now?

I feel like my trash can would tell much about me. If someone were to go through my trash can, they would find a broken clock, an empty tissue box, and an empty water casing. I don't think that you could tell much about me that you could say about anybody else based on those 3 items. If I had to choose 3  unique items instead of 3 random items, I think that it would be easier to tell something about me I don't think 3 items from my trash can can tell me anything about me. I realized you need real standards to judge people.

In "The Rockpile", John and Roy do not always receive the same treatment from the adults in their family. Have you ever felt that you or someone else in your family was treated differently from everyone else? What caused the difference, and do you think it was fair? Explain

I don't think that I have felt like anybody in my family was treated differently than everybody else. Every time I would hang out with my family, I never felt like anybody in my family got treated different everybody usually gets treated with respect. I think that I'm probably lucky to be in a situation where nobody in my family Is shamed. I never have felt like anyone in  my family was treated differently I realized how uncomfortable it must feel to have someone in your family treated differently than everyone else

In “The Rockpile,” the children know that the rockpile is dangerous and that they are supposed to stay away from it, but curiosity still draws them toward it. Think about a time when curiosity or temptation caused you to ignore a warning or rule. What happened, and what did you learn from the experience?

One time a temptation made me do something irresponsible was when I skipped school on a test day.  I was super tired, and I knew that I had a test that day, so I decided to stay at home and study instead of going to school. However, I was tempted to just keep putting off the studying, and I was only able to get a little bit of studying done. A time that A temptation caused me to make a mistake was when I skipped school on a test day and didn't study I realized how often temptations can lead to mistakes.

Think about a major event that has happened during your own lifetime, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or another event that affected your community or the country. Why do you think some people have such a difficult time accepting loss or change? Connect Emily’s actions to your own observations or experiences with people struggling to let go

I think that some people have a hard time letting go of things because they want to feel comfortable in past experiences. I have had certain experiences  trying to let go of certain Things that were difficult   to let go of. One thing that I found difficult to let go of was when I had to go back to school after summer break this year. I think people have a tough time accepting loss is that they have to reflect on why they made a mistake A lot of people want  to feel comfortable so they find it hard to move on. I realized I need to be hopeful and just keep going to  make progress.

Think about a house, building, or place that holds special memories for you. What does that place look like, what memories do you connect with it, and what does it represent to you?

A place that holds several special and important memories and past experiences  is the old apartment that I moved out of when I was 8. It is important to me because of all of the past memories and experiences I have there. I would say that the apartment looks like a standard, average apartment. It represents to me a time when I was not worried about anything.   A place that holds memories for me is my old house. I realized how many past memories that I have completely forgot.

Think about the word or phrase you find yourself using the most right now. What is it, what does it mean, and why has it become part of your everyday vocabulary? Explain when you typically use it and what your choice of this word or phrase might reveal about you.

A phrase that I have found myself using currently is the word whatever. It is used to express indifference or not really caring about something. I typically use it when I am thinking to myself. I typically use it when I'm thinking about something happening that I dont approve but something I dont hate happening. I think this reveals that I will always try to find a silver lining in something. I phrase I use often is whatever. I became more  aware of the language I use.

Something that reminded me how fast time moved when I was on vacation in Indonesia this year. In February, I went to Indonesia to visit family, and I stayed there for 2 weeks. I went to 2 different cities to visit family and go to the beaches. It reminded me of how fast time is even though I did a lot it felt like it just happened quickly. A time I realized time moves fast is when I visited family  in Indonesia I realized I should spend more time present because time moves quickly.

Prompt: Write about a fear you have overcome

A fear that I have overcome is my fear of the ocean. When I was a kid, I used to be scared of the ocean and all the animals in it. I think that the fear was mostly due to me being young and not knowing that much. I overcame the fear by naturally realizing that there is probably never going to be a situation where I'm going to end up stranded in the middle of the ocean. A fear I overcame was being afraid of the ocean when I was a kid. I realized how many fears that I have or had that are unrealistic.
